Espresso Tonic

Espresso Tonic

Bright and refreshing, sweet and sharp, this classic coffee mocktail is a surefire winner when the sun shines. With no fancy ingredients or equipment, there's no reason not to give this a try today.

Ingredients:

  • Double Espresso (approx 50ml). Other Brew methods also work well.
  • 150ml good quality, chilled tonic water.
  • Lemon wedge.
  • Ice

Method:

  1. Brew your Espresso and set aside to cool slightly. If you don't have an espresso machine, other brew methods that produce a full-bodied cup work well, such as a Moka Pot, French Press or an AeroPress. We used FiXX Lisbon, which adds a nice sweetness to the mocktail.
  2. Fill a glass with ice, then squeeze and add 1 wedge of lemon.
  3. Fill your glass with good-quality tonic water, leaving room at the top for your coffee.
  4. Slowly pour your coffee on top and enjoy!

Tips:

  • If you would like to float your coffee at the top of the glass, slowly pour your coffee over the back of a tablespoon so it sits on top of the tonic.
  • You can add sweeteners if you like. Just dissolve your desired amount of sugar into the coffee while it cools.
  • Lime also works well if you don't have any lemon available.
  • You can turn your mocktail into a cocktail if you'd like. Gin is an obvious pairing with this tonic combination, but a splash of coffee liqueur is equally delicious. Dark or spiced rum is another great option, especially if you're using a dark roast coffee such as FiXX Cubano. Whatever you choose, remember to enjoy responsibly!

And there you have it. This simple recipe has become a classic for a reason. It is the brilliant combination of simple and delicious. Give it a try or add it to your menu today!
