How do I choose a coffee brewer?

There are a couple of factors to consider when choosing a coffee brewer. Firstly, it will depend on the number of people in your household who drink coffee. If you are the only coffee drinker, perhaps a single-serve brewer would be more suitable such as the Hario V60 Brewer. If you are looking to cater for a larger number of coffee drinkers, a brewer like the Bodum French press would be a better option. Your choice will also depend on your chosen budget. Learn more in our blog - How to Choose The Best Brewer.

What can I use to store coffee?

It is important to store coffee correctly as this will impact the quality and taste of your coffee. We would recommend using an airtight container such as the CoffeeGator storage canister as this seals your coffee and uses a valve that releases CO2 and stops O2 from entering. Alternatively, you should use a storage clip to seal your bag of coffee beans or ground as this will prevent your coffee from becoming stale. Always store your coffee in a dark, dry place.

What are the best budget friendly brew equipment options?

All of the coffee brewers available on FiXX Coffee are quite budget friendly and affordable. If you are starting out, the Hario V60 Brewer or Bodum French Press are affordable options which are quick and easy to use. The Bialetti Moka Pot and the Aeropress are very useful gift ideas at a reasonable price. You will find that nearly all of our brewers are available for less than €50.

Is a coffee scales necessary when brewing coffee?

We would recommend using a coffee scales when brewing at home as this ensures the perfect proportions and therefore, the perfect tasting cup of coffee. If the proportions of water and coffee are not well balanced, you will end up with under-extracted or over-extracted coffee, which won’t taste as good. Alternatively, use a coffee scoop with clear measurements to weigh your ground coffee.

What is the advantage of owning a coffee grinder?

A coffee grinder is a good addition to your collection of brew equipment for a number of reasons. Firstly, coffee that is ground just before brewing results in maximum extraction and therefore, improved flavour. Coffee beans stay fresher for longer than pre ground coffee. Having a coffee grinder at home also means you can adjust the grind setting to the exact size according to the brewing method and your preference.
