Iced Irish Coffee

Spring is a time for rebirth. Something new coming from something old. And March is a month that can be celebrated with a little drop of something Irish. And with that in mind, we have a new recipe for you. The Iced Irish Coffee is exactly what it sounds like. The classic hot cocktail, but served on ice. Admittedly, this recipe might be better suited for when the sun is shining, but you'll be happy to hear this is a tasty treat no matter the weather. Which is handy as Ireland is hardly renowned for its sunshine.

Ingredients:

  • 35ml Irish Whiskey
  • 15ml Simple Syrup
  • 150ml Cold Brew made using FiXX Organic
  • Lightly whipped pouring cream
  • Chocolate or Nutmeg to dust
  • Ice

Make Your Cold Brew:

The first step is to make your cold brew. We used the simple-to-do-at-home, immersion method:

  • Put 60g of coarsely ground FiXX Organic into a large container with 500ml of cold water.
  • Mix so that all the coffee gets wet, then cover and leave to sit for 18 hours (if you do this step in the fridge, it's vital you have an airtight container).
  • Next, strain to remove all the coffee grinds. Paper filters work best if you have one. Take a second to marvel at the intense chocolatey aroma. You've now got your base and are ready to rock.

Method:

  • Fill a highball glass with ice and add your whiskey.
  • Add your simple syrup and mix to combine. If you don't have simple syrup, it is easily made by dissolving 1 part sugar in one part water in a saucepan over medium heat. Once it's cool, it's ready to use.
  • Add your cold brew. You can use other cold coffees like this iced filter coffee, but for the best results, use cold-brewed FiXX Organic.
  • Pour your cream into a cocktail shaker and shake for approximately 20 seconds. This will slightly airate and thicken the cream so it will hold its shape on top of the hot cocktail. If you don't have a cocktail shaker, you can use a jar with a lid.
  • Once your cream is ready, slowly pour it onto the cocktail over the back of a spoon. This will slowly spread the cream around the top and help to keep its shape.
  • You can then add a sprinkle of chocolate or nutmeg powder on top. But this part is optional.
  • Finally, enjoy! Responsibly, of course.

And there you have it. Feel free to experiment with different FiXX blends. Brewing using the cold brew method can bring out incredible flavours and smoothness. You can mix up your whiskey and experiment with different sugars when making your simple syrup. Enjoy!
