8 Health Benefits of Green Tea

Green Tea has become such a popular drink in recent times that it is now a staple in many people’s homes and kitchens.  Known for its immensely powerful health benefits here are some of the many reasons why we love to drink it.

1. Green Tea is a rich source of Antioxidants

A powerful antioxidant called Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is believed to be responsible for most of the health benefits linked to Green Tea.  It belongs to a class of antioxidants called “catechins” which is said to offer protective properties to the body.

2. Green Tea and Weight Loss 

As it boosts the metabolic rate naturally with the mechanism of inducing a thermogenic effect (which means the body gives off more heat), it appears that more calories are burned up at rest as well as helping the liver function more efficiently.

Growing evidence suggests that tea (without the addition of sugar) can help destroy many bacteria and viruses that cause dental decay.

The specific flavonoids, mainly catechins, have exhibited inhibitory effects on the growth of cariogenic bacteria by preventing the adherence and growth of plaque bacteria at the tooth surface.
