South Sudan - Nzara and Yambio County, Excelsa
FiXX Single Origin #67 is one of the most unique coffees we’ve ever sourced. Produced by Equatoria Coffee in South Sudan, this rare lot is neither Arabica nor Robusta, but Excelsa — a little-known coffee species linked to wild-growing coffee trees in South Sudan, with remarkable resilience to heat, pests and disease, and huge potential for the future of speciality coffee. Equatoria’s work goes beyond coffee alone, though. By providing seedlings, training and long-term agricultural support, they are helping rebuild coffee cultivation in regions heavily impacted by civil conflict, creating sustainable income for local farming communities in the process. But what truly makes this Special Release stand apart is the cup itself. Processed anaerobically for up to 64 hours before drying, the cup is complex, savoury and unlike almost anything else we’ve tasted. Expect notes of cedar, malt and walnut, layered with honey-like sweetness and a delicate chamomile floral finish.
TASTING NOTES: Cedar, malt, walnut, honey, chamomile
