Would you pay €134 (US$170.20) for a pound of coffee?
Well that’s what Panama’s geisha coffee sold for at an auction recently, the highest record ever in coffee auction history.  It was bought in an online auction by Japanese bidder Saza Coffee for more than 100 times the average coffee price.
Panama is the only country in the world that produces Geisha Coffee and quantities are very limited.
What is a Speciality Coffee?
The term Speciality Coffee was first used by Erna Knutsen of Knutsen Coffee Ltd in Tea and Coffee Trade Journal in 1974 to describe best flavour beans that are produced in special microclimates.
Underlying this was that specialty coffee beans would always be well prepared, freshly roasted, and properly brewed.

Each competitor must prepare 2 identical warm Cappuccinos, 2 identical warm Espresso-Macchiatos and 2 identical warm milk and coffee based beverages of choice (Designer Beverages) using any tool or decoration ingredient for the surface of the beverage.
29th September 2010: Coffee in Good Spirits Competition
Each competitor must prepare in 8 minutes, 2 identical warm Irish Coffees and 2 identical warm or cold coffee and alcohol Designer Beverages.
29th September 2010 :Â Coffee Cupping Competition
8 triangles are set on the table. In each triangle two cups contain the same coffee and one cup contains a different coffee. The competitor must identify the odd cup in the triangles.
